This pivotal decision was part of founder David Wise’s succession plan. Rather than risking Wise’s unique culture with an external sale, David chose to sell the company to its own employees. The goal was clear: to nurture our culture, empower staff, and support future growth. This felt like the perfect reflection of our industry reputation and existing values.
The journey to EO began in 2021 when David made the decision to sell to his employees. By October 2022, the Board of Directors was implemented, paving the way for the transition. In December 2022, David officially transferred 70% of his shares to Wise’s employees, establishing the Wise Productions EOT (Employee-Ownership Trust) Limited, which holds shares for the benefit of our team.
So, what does this mean for Our People?
Every employee with six months of continuous service and a passed probation period is a proud Co-Owner of Wise! While our leadership team manages daily operations, Co-Owners play an active role in securing the future success of Wise by supporting company objectives and generating ideas. If the company performs well, Co-Owners also have the potential to receive tax-free profit shares, up to £3,600 per year.
Being employee-owned brings a wealth of benefits: it means a company that better reflects our Co-Owners’ passions, empowers our staff (which tangibly benefits our clients and venues!), and fosters a stronger commitment to sustainability, local communities, and corporate social responsibility. Employee-owned businesses are also proven to be more successful, profitable, competitive, and sustainable.
This commitment to our people was proudly recognised when we won the EO Transition of the Year Award in 2023!
Here’s to our incredible team and the bright future ahead, guided by our collective ownership.
